Brighton Beach is a Brooklyn neighborhood bordering the amusement park at Coney Island. The area had a hey day in the 1950s and early 1960s, after which it went into decline with a rise in crime. Immigrants mostly from the city of Odessa in Ukraine revived the neighborhood in the 1980s and transformed it into a bustling diverse neighborhood with unique shops and restaurants adjoining the wide beach. It's a unique enclave that I've endeavored to explore.
